Upgrading Ktesibios

This document will guide you through the process of installing KTESIBIOS versions 1.1.07 and 1.2.x

Starting with KTESIBIOS 1.2 a new data format has been introduced which is no longer compatible with previous versions. To be able to upgrade to KT1.2.x you first need to upgrade to KT1.1.07. This version is able to convert your KTESIBIOS projects to a format that can be imported by KT1.2.x.

If you are currently running a version less than 1.1.07, then go to Upgrading to KTESIBIOS 1.1.07
If you are running version 1.1.07 or higher, but less than 1.2.x, then go to Upgrading to KTESIBIOS 1.2

Upgrading to KTESIBIOS 1.1.07

NOTE: You only need to install KT1.1.07 if you wish to be able to use your existing KTESIBIOS project files. If you do not need or want to use your existing work you can skip to Upgrading to KTESIBIOS 1.2

1. If you do not have your current license file request it. Don’t forget to mention the number printed on the Hardlock.

2. Request the latest installation files.

3. Make a backup of all your KTESIBIOS files (*.pkt, *.rkt).

4. Remove the main KTESIBIOS directory that contains KT.EXE and all its support files. Remove any shortcuts to KTESIBIOS on your desktop and the START/PROGRAMS menu.

5. Run the installation.

6. Copy the license file to the KTESIBIOS installation directory. It is the one where the file KT.EXE resides.

7. Restore your KTESIBIOS project and stop files

From your backup, restore your project and stop files to the appropriate subdirectories in the KTESIBIOS home directory.
If you wish to update to KT1.2 go to step 8, otherwise you can now begin working with KTESIBIOS 1.1.07.

8. Export your project files for use in KT 1.2.

1. Start KTESIBIOS
2. In the FILE menu select “1.1.07 to 1.2x”
3. From the file dialog in the DIRECTORY window select the directory containing the files you wish to convert.
4. Once you have done this the files contained in this directory will be listed in the FILES section of the dialog.
5. Select one of the *.PKT files and click OK.
6. KTESIBIOS then converts all the *.PKT files in the selected directory.
7. When KTESIBIOS has completed this task it will notify you and tell you that it will now exit the program.
8. Click OK.
9. Restart KTESIBIOS and select another directory (if you have more than one working directory) and follow steps 1 through 8 for all directories that contain data that you would like to convert.

Updating to KTESIBIOS 1.2

1. Install KTESIBIOS 1.1.07 if you whish to be able to use your existing projects.

2. If you do not have your current license file request it. Don’t forget to mention the number printed on the Hardlock.

3. Request the latest installation files.

4. Before you install KTESIBIOS.

Make a backup of all DIRECTORIES that contain the files you converted (*.pkx).

To remove KTESIBIOS 1.1.07:
On your desktop double click “My computer”.
Then double click “Control Panel”.
Then “Add/Remove Programs”. From the list of available programs select KTESIBIOS and click “Add/Remove”.
Follow the instructions to remove KTESIBIOS 1.1.07, this will remove KT1.1.07 from your system. It might be necessary to remove some files manually.

To remove earlier versions of KTESIBIOS #4 in Upgrading to KTESIBIOS 1.1.07.

5. Run the installation.

Execute the file that you downloaded in step 3. Follow the instructions of the setup program. At one point the installation for KTESIBIOS starts the installation program for the Hardlock drivers. Follow the instructions for this setup as well.

6. Copy the license file to the KTESIBIOS directory.

Once the installation is completed copy the license file you received as an attachment with the e-mail to the KTESIBIOS home directory. It is the one where the file KT.EXE resides.

7. Restore your KTESIBIOS project and stop files

From your backup, restore your project and stop files to the appropriate subdirectories in the KTESIBIOS home directory.

8. Convert files to KT1.2 format.

1. Start KTESIBIOS
2. In the FILE menu select “1.1.07 to 1.2x”
3. From the file dialog in the DIRECTORY window select the directory containing the files you wish to convert.
4. Once you have done this the files contained in this directory will be listed in the FILES section of the dialog.
5. Select one of the files and click OK (It does not matter if you select a *.pkt, or *.pkx file).
6. KTESIBIOS then converts all the files in the selected directory.
7. When KTESIBIOS has completed this task it will notify you and tell you that it will now exit the program.
8. Click OK.
9. Restart KTESIBIOS and select another directory (if you have more than one working directory) and follow steps 1 through 8 for all directories that contain data that you would like to convert.
Once you have converted all files you can delete the files with the *.pkx extension.

You can now start working with KT1.2
